Trojans Mens 1s continued their impressive form in the league with a convincing 6-0 defeat of a very strong Indian Gymkhana side.
Despite missing Rich Aves and Dan Ferrier Trojans dominated possession and territory from the start of the game and were unlucky to be denied an opening goal from a short corner when Ian Bassett’s shot was harshly judged to have been too high.
Indian Gym tried to rally and Bass denied them a goal with a reaction save on the line.
Trojans also nullified the threat from Indian Gym’s short corners, with the hosts unsuccessful from 5 efforts.
Steve Cole marshalled his defence superbly and Trojans played with the calmness and confidence they have been building through pre-season.
Goals came slowly at first, Piers Eveleigh opening the scoring and it was 1-0 at half time. However, a scintillating second half saw goals from Colin French (x2), Sam Broadhurst, Ben Frost and Matty Bell.
The team now sit on top of the league table and Matty Bell is joint top scorer in the league. All this bodes well for the forthcoming league games.
Piers Eveleigh was deservedly awarded Man of the Match for his tireless work, with Tim Fewtrell, Toby Dodson and Ian Bassett running him close in the voting. The Mens 1s next game is at home on Saturday 10th at 13:30
