Padel Tennis is coming to Trojans this Spring

Following the granting of planning permission and the agreement at the club recent AGM to lease land to padelstars, set out below is a further update.

We have now formally signed the lease agreement. The necessary responses by PadelStars to the planning conditions ( such as materials the courts will be made from and drainage designs) are in the process of being approved by Test Valley Borough Council, our local planning authority.

The next step is... they start building...its getting very exciting

Dear Trojans Member,

Hello!! 

We are PadelStars, the people who can’t wait to bring padel tennis to the Trojans Club.

Hopefully you’ve been hearing about padel, there’s a lot of buzz in the media about the sport and growing anticipation in the Southampton area about courts coming locally. We’ve been inundated by people wanting to give it a try. It’s great fun – easy to learn, hyper social, great exercise – if you haven’t played we hope you’ll soon come and find about what all the fuss is about.

Below is a brief update of where we are and what we’re planning:

What we’re building.

Six state-of-the-art courts, four of which will be covered by a high-quality canopy so that you can always play, rain or shine!

When is it coming?

We should start building in late March, you’ll see us on the right as you drive into the club. With a fair wind (and hopefully even fairer weather…) we plan to open in June, in time for the summer season

Who can play?

The courts are for everyone! Padel is a sport suited to all ages and any level of ability. There will be the opportunity to join as a member, but also just pay & play. There’ll be rackets and balls available so you don’t need to have your own

How much does it cost and how do we book

We’ll share more details on this in due course. One thing we can say for now is that there will be exclusive offers for Trojans members in terms of giving padel a try and discounted membership offers.

Having now got full planning permission for our new clubhouse, we have set up a small working group of people who have expertise relevant to, and an interest in making it happen. We are continuing to work with Barclay and Phillips, our architects that got us to this stage, and are seeking to tender for the core roles needed to support what they do next. 

The key roles which remain unfilled at this stage are for 

• an organisation or individual to provide professional Structural Engineering support
• an organisation or individual to provide Mechanical and Electrical support
• someone to lead the work on planning for what happens in the gap between old and new clubhouses being fully available.

At a later point we will need to tender for a company to build our new facility.
