Under 8s – First Month Update

Hi everyone!

A huge thank you for a fantastic first month! It’s been brilliant getting back into the swing of things, getting to know the children and starting to understand where they are best placed within our training groups.

Groups

The groups are changeable throughout the season as the children develop and we see what works best for them. Please could you remind your child of their group before training each week (see attached image). With 59 children, our one hour is very precious and we’d much rather spend it playing hockey than organising groups!

Lynx

This group is currently larger, mainly because it includes our Under 5s and newer starters. We expect this group to be particularly interchangeable with approx 8-10 attending each week depending on availability, tiredness from school and how the younger ones are getting on.

This month’s focus

We’re moving into attacking play, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the children continue to grow, develop and enjoy their hockey!

We’re incredibly lucky to be able to make 6 teams from our training group for a training tournament. We want every child to experience matches and the fun of a tournament, even if they aren’t playing in the official Sunday ones. That’s why we’ll be running Tournament Fridays each month before our Sunday tournaments. Please confirm availability for training on the 9th ASAP. We’ll need to organise balanced teams before Friday so we can make the most of our hour.

With numbers continuing to grow, we’d be incredibly grateful for anyone who would like to volunteer and get involved — you don’t need to be an experienced coach, just willing to help!

There is big growth in the younger ones and we need more support and bodies to help manage those groups-they improve quickly with smaller ratios as it gives the ability to focus on them.
