After a long summer of preparation, and some pre-season, we’re back into the swing of the main season.
We've got lots of exciting updates to share! Be sure to read all the way through this email so you know what's coming this season.
After the success of the Men’s 1s last year, we’ve got a full program with two national league teams, a busy senior section and countless youngsters playing across the year. Good luck everyone!
After a busy summer, the clubhouse redevelopment is entering its final stages and the results are impressive. Our brand new changing rooms will be coming online over the coming weeks, with all nine changing areas expected to be fully available by the end of October which will be a significant upgrade for players and visitors alike. Work will continue in the bar area, which is already a larger, more welcoming environment.
Trojans Hockey is run entirely by volunteers. Without the time, energy, and dedication of our members, none of what we do, from junior hockey on a Sunday morning to Adult fixtures on a Saturday afternoon would be possible. As we head into a new season, we are looking to grow and strengthen the volunteer team across a number of areas. Whether you have a specific skill to offer or simply want to get more involved, there is a role for you.

Umpiring is the lifeblood of match day. Without enough officials, matches cannot go ahead. While we have a dedicated group of umpires giving their time week in week out, we are always looking to add to their number. No prior knowledge of the rules is required; training can be arranged, and umpires appointed to matches can be paid.
This is a particularly great opportunity for parents of junior players who are already at the ground on match days. We also actively encourage juniors aged 14 and over to pick up a whistle, it is one of the best ways to develop a deeper understanding of the game.
We are also looking to strengthen the support around our umpires, and would welcome someone to help with the Umpire Secretary role - coordinating the weekend schedule across seniors and juniors to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

We are fortunate to already have some brilliant people giving their time to promote the club, but as Trojans Hockey grows, so does the workload. This season we are looking to build on what we already have by bringing more volunteers into a structured Media, Communications & Events team, sharing the load and raising our profile further across local press, social media, our website, and club events.
The roles we are looking to strengthen and expand include:
Whether there is a role you could step into fully, or simply an area where you could offer a few hours of support alongside an existing volunteer, we would love to hear from you. No prior hockey knowledge is needed, and the roles are well suited to both club members with relevant experience and students in sports journalism, media, photography, design, marketing, or events management.

Membership Fees
Membership fees are due now- a range of payment options are available to spread the cost, and selection for matches will become dependent on payment status.
As always, we’ve worked hard to try to keep membership fees stable to provide the best possible value to members. This year there are minor increases to reflect fee structures that England Hockey have applied to clubs across the board.
Remember that with Trojans, your subscription covers the whole-club membership, plus a portion that covers the hockey activities. If you are already a member that has paid for this season via one of the other sections, please contact the junior or senior membership secretaries respectively to adjust your payment to reflect the hockey component only.

All players from U14 onwards must have a numbered shirt. A list of available and assigned shirt numbers is maintained centrally. Please order and pay through the Trojans Online Shop and a shirt number will be allocated and your shirt will be ordered and dispatched by TK.
Numbered shirts are discouraged for U8s-U12s to allow for the reuse of shirts as players outgrow them. Once ordered on the Trojans Online Shop, these shirts will be delivered to Trojans and you will be notified when ready for collection.

Trojans Hockey is one of Hampshire's most active and ambitious hockey clubs, with two National League teams, a junior section running from Under 5s through to Under 18s, and a community programme that reaches well beyond our own membership. Through our schools outreach programme, we provide hockey coaching directly into local state schools - introducing the sport to children who might never otherwise encounter it, and strengthening our ties with the wider community.

One of the things we are most proud of at Trojans Hockey is our Community Outreach Programme. Each season, our volunteer coaches head into local primary schools to deliver free hockey sessions, introducing hundreds of children to the sport. We follow up with tournaments on the Trojans astro, giving those children a taste of what playing for a club could feel like, and working with schools to help interested families find their way to us.
The feedback from schools has been wonderful. As one teacher put it after a recent visit:
"Trojans Hockey club delivered fantastic, inspiring lessons for our Year 4 class. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves... The coaches were very engaging and thoughtful. They learnt majority of the children's names in a few sessions, which added that personal touch."

This programme does not run itself. It depends entirely on volunteers willing to give a few hours to go into schools and share their love of the game.
